Kratie

Kratie is one of the most beautiful and the most famous tourist places in Cambodia. This attracts lots of tourists thanks to the peaceful atmosphere and nice mild landscape. The reason why you should visit Kratie is that it is one of the most favourite tourist places. And Kratie is also the peaceful dreamy city with the beautiful scenery. There are definitely many activities for travelers to experience the local culture and lifestyle.

Located in the east of Cambodia, Kratie is the capital of the province which has the same name. Lying on the banks of the mighty Mekong River, which emboss the province from the North to the South, the city with less population, the colonial architectural sites and thick-forested areas turning this city to be the ideal place for tourists to relax and to experience. The stretch of the river around Kratie town is home to group of rare sweet water Irrawaddy dolphins. Therefore the dolphins are the main tourist attraction of the province and the town.

The river also has hundreds of green island and circling water, which are also attracting some tourists. Kratie town is sleepy but picturesque with sandbars and big islands out front and bends in the river. Unlike in many towns around Cambodia, the war years were fairly kind to the French architecture and the roads, at least in the town itself. Kratie has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons. The rainy season in Kratie usually starts from May to October with high rainfall and high humidity. The dry season starts from November to April with low rainfall and cool weather. The best time to travel to Kratie is from November to April when the weather in Kratie is extremely cool and dry. The average rainfall during these months in much lower than during the rainy season, making your travel and sighseeing experience more complete.

Tourist places you should not miss when travelling to Kratie

Koh Trong 

is a large island on the Mekong river in Kratie province, Cambodia. Koh Trong island is about 9 km long and 4 km wide, and is home to more than 6000 indigenous people. Koh Trong is famous for its peaceful natural landscape and extremely rich vegetation. And also on Koh Trong, you will discover the lives and customes of the local people.

Phnom Sambok National Park

is the natural reserve covering an area of 1400 square kilometers. This national park is a home of hundreds of rare animal species and unique plants. Phnom Sambok National Park is a great place for trekking and picnicking. It is a great place to admire the natural beauty of Kratie.

Mekong Turtle Sanctuary  

The Mekong turtle sanctuary was established in 2000 to protect the Mekong river’s rate turtles, including the giant box turtle, Cantor’s turtle, and four – eyed turtle. The Mekong turtle sanctuary covers an area of approximately 30 hectares and is divided into 2 areas: a conservation area and a tourism area.  The conservation area is home to more than 2000 turtles, many of which are hundreds of years old.

Kratie market is the most famous market in the city. Kratie market is where many tourist come to buy souvenirs or immerse themselves in the daily life of the local people.
